Twitter announced today that they will be acquiring Scroll and this version of Nuzzel will be shutting down on May 6, 2021. However, we’ll be working with Twitter on ways to take the best of the Nuzzel experience and build it directly into Twitter. Nuzzel users who want to help define what that should be or get early access should sign up here.Why is Nuzzel going dark?When Twitter approached us about bringing Scroll into their broader subscription plans, all sides were excited about what we could do with Nuzzel and spent weeks trying to find a way to bring it with us. In the end, we found that the only way for Nuzzel to meet the scalability requirements necessary for a company like Twitter was to rebuild the service from scratch.The futureSimply cloning a service conceived in 2012 doesn’t make a ton of sense. Instead, we’ll be working with Twitter to figure out how the best of Nuzzel should be expressed in 2021. In the meantime, Nuzzel’s app, site and email service will go dark.To those of you who love Nuzzel and are disappointed that we can’t maintain it in the interim, I’m as disappointed as you. We explored any number of Hail Marys to make that happen and just couldn’t get there. Looking to the future, Nuzzel has always felt like it should be a core part of Twitter and I’m excited to help make it so. If you want to help, let us know.
